As a designer for the Waikato Times marketing department I have been involved in projects as diverse as web based design, newspaper advertising campaigns and building Christmas parade floats. I can comfortably handle design projects from concept through to printed product with results that will impress. I also have previous work experience in website maintenance and moving graphics for museum display screens.

The last few years I have been working with print based stuff, newspaper mainly, but in the past I've done a bit of moving graphics. It's something I really enjoy. I can also whip up a basic website (like this one).

Tempo Competitions - 2006 - 2009
Competition in the Weekly "Tempo" tabloid. The prize varied from week to week. I put one of these together most weeks of my three years with the Waikato Times.

Ad-Tachment - 2007
Advertising campaign for "Ad-Tachments" - Post-It style notes with the client's message on attached to the front page of the newspaper.

Garage Sale Advertising Campaign - 2007
An advertising campaign to get people to advertise their garage sales in the newspaper.

Hospice Waikato Fundraising "Thermometer" - 2007
Graphic illustrating funds raised by Hospice Waikato. It shows what has been raised and what the amount of money means the Hospice is able to afford.

Competition for a L'Oreal gift basket.

Valentines Day Special - 2007
An ad persuading people to place romantic personals in the Fabruary 14th Waikato Times. I managed to get the Waikato Times' tagline changed from "As Waikato As It Gets" to "As Romantic As It Gets".

Taupo Times one of Fairfax Media's Waikato Regional Comunity Newspapers, I occasionally did work for them. This ad is a call for nominations.

The Buzz - 2009
The Buzz is a fortnightly email newsletter that keeps subscribers up to date with what competitions and promotions are going on at the Waikato Times. I was responsable for designing the email template that is used for newsletters as well as all of the promotional material.

This is a competition I put the visuals together for. Un fortunately I didn't stick around long enough to see it through to completion. I was very happy with how it worked out though. 1 is the launch ad, 2 & 3 are the inside & outside of a card for collecting stamps from retailers, 4 is an A3 poster.

My own brand for freelance design. I wanted it to show what I'm all about so it's clean, simple and a little bit funny.

Hamilton Rowing Club - 2005
I'm right in to my rowing and my rowing club's logos were starting to look a bit tired so I gave them a spruce up.

Identity designed and applied to a business card and vehicle graphics.

Newspapers in Education Sneezin' Season tabloid - 2006
I got called in to put together an NIE tabloid. I quite enjoyed it. The cover was already done but the rest of the layout was all me.

Waikato Times folder - 2006
Folder used for giving away the Waikato TImes and promotional material to potential clients. I designed this folder from scratch as it needed to be able to fold whilst holding a newspaper and other material which ended up being quite thick.

Polo shirts worn at a trade show. The Waikato Times took along a putting green to draw people in hence the polo's golfing theme.

House Warming Gift - 2008
Folded DLE for real estate agents to give their clients as a house warming offering free delivery to their new house. Also a letter to the real estate agents explaining the deal.

Cherie's fundraising dinner - 2008
Cherie is a friend from work who had breast cancer. A dinner/party/auction was organised to help raise some funds for her treatment. This is the invite/ticket.

Waikato Museum "Innovations in Agriculture" video titles - 2003
I put these title graphics together during a stint at the Waikato Museum. Quite like how the cow ear tag turned out.

This one ran throughout the exhibition on a huge screen suspended above the exhibition. The old footage I was given to work with was pretty cool. I know way too much about artificial insemination now.

The Early Years

Moving graphics - 2001-2002
My favourite class. I had lots of fun. Definitely something I wouldn't mind getting back in to. Movie 1: an exercise using motion along paths. Movie 2: An exercise using scale and Richard Simmons. Movie 3: I think this was a free for all - a bit of 3D work here. Movie 4: A new take on the princess and the frog.

Portfolio - 2002
This was an assignment that allowed me to bring together a couple of years work into a portfolio piece. This was an A3 poster that slipped into an envelope for posting.

One of my final major assignments I put together a boxed set of funk, soul and disco LPs. this is one of the sleeves un folded.
